If the endometrial cells are found on the muscular wall of the uterus, then you are suffering from adenomyosis. Unlike endometriosis, these displaced cells can cause the endometrial lining to break through the muscles of the uterus.

The symptoms of adenomyosis and endometriosis are very similar. Severe cramping and pain in the pelvis during menstruation are the primary symptoms of both adenomyosis and endometriosis. Both conditions will also cause excessive menstrual bleeding, pain in the lower back or pelvis, intestinal pain, pain going to the bathroom and pain during intercourse.
